A series of short films from Big hART’s Namatjira Project
This dics contains 6 short films from Namatjira – a project inspired by the story of Albert Namatjira. At its inception, the Namatjira project was a small idea to tell a big story – inspired by the life of internationally acclaimed Indigenous watercolour artist Albert Namatjira. The project evolved quickly from a celebration of his life, into an awakening of the living, breathing legacy he has left behind. From Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and Alice Springs, the project launched its work with Albert’s family and community of artists who continue to paint today. Now, after the historic return of the copyright to the Namatjira family, the project leaves a lasting legacy.
The project worked closely with the Namatjira family and extended communities in the Western Arrente lands of the central Australian desert – Namatjira’s country. Direct descendant’s of Albert’s – they are prolific artists in their won right. During the project family members worked as exhibiting artists, performers, workshop leaders and campaigners, and are subjects of the short films on this disc.
